Sleeping Bag Liner

There are many different types of sleeping bag liners, but they all share a common goal. To keep outdoor lovers warm and comfortable when camping, backpacking, or just enjoying a night under the stars. The right sleeping bag liner depends on a variety of factors, including the average temperature in which the sleeping bag will be used, the shape of the sleeping bag and the user’s personal preference. The three basic sleeping bag shapes are the mummy, the rectangle, and the oval rectangle, which is a combination of the mummy and the standard rectangle shape. They also come for a single or a double sleeping bag. Naturally, this is the first thing that should be considered when choosing a liner, as it will provide more comfort if it matches the overall shape of the bag.

Next, you should compare the different brands and models available, starting with material. Although a silk sleeping bag liner is very lightweight, it is also a good insulator, and in warmer weather is breathable and absorbent. Some favorite types of silk sleeping bags include the Hammock Bliss or Grand Trunk Sleep Sack.  Many people feel silk liners are more comfortable against the skin than nylon or cotton liners.

Some outdoor enthusiasts choose a fleece sleeping bag liner, as they are very soft and quick drying. The heavier models tend to be a bit bulkier, however, so if you are hiking you may wish to take this into consideration. On the other hand, they do provide a bit more warmth than other fabrics, adding approximately 12 degrees Fahrenheit. The Coleman Stratus sleeping bag liner is a favorite of those who prefer fleece, and works well with any sleeping bag.

The Slumberjack Merino Mummy sleeping bag liner is made of wool and provides exceptional warmth. Most people, who find their skin sensitive to wool, successfully avoid this discomfort by running the liner through several wash cycles to soften it.

Other options include the Sea to Summit Thermolite liner. This model is lightweight and can double as a sleeping bag for warmer weather. It is made up of fibers that offer warmth, but are also breathable.

Cotton liners are strong and durable, but not very compact. For humid conditions, synthetic liners are probably a better choice as they are moisture-wicking and a bit more breathable.

With the wide variety of sleeping bag liners available, there is something for everyone. It is wise to decide on a budget for the sleeping bag liner, and then comparison shop to arrive at the best decision.

Cabin Tents

If you need or want a lot of room while camping then you should really consider buying one of the many cabin tents available.  For privacy, these tents come with several rooms.  One of the great features is that you can stand up and walk around in them unlike smaller tents.

The cabin tent is a great investment for anyone that wants more space while being outdoors.  Some are large enough to fit a table into which would be great for those rainy days while camping.

Coleman has a variety of camping cabin tents available.  The Coleman Heritage tent sleeps six people, comes with two rooms and two doors.  The walls in this tent are straight to add more living space.

Are you the camper that enjoys winter camping?  Then you should check out what the Canvas Cabins Tent has to offer.  This company is out of Oregon and offers a variety of canvas cabin tents.

In the past, so many families have had to take two or three tents with them when they go camping due to having a large family.  Now you can purchase a family cabin tent that will comfortably hold your entire family, such as the Gigatent Mt. Kinsman.  This is a three-room tent with attached screen room that will sleep eight people.

Columbia makes an incredible cabin tent called the Cougar Flats II. This tent has two rooms and is made with heavy-duty nylon for frequent use.  It has two doors so you can enter each room without disturbing anyone.  The Texsport Sequoia Pass is another great cabin tent. This thing is huge at 19-Feet X 9-Feet X 86-Inches. It can easily fit two queen sized air mattresses with space in the middle for all of your other gear.

Tents have changed so much that you really need to go out and see what there is to purchase.  Decide on whether you will be using this tent all year round, in different seasons or to house overnight guests in your back yard and then make your decision and get the tent that meets your needs.  Other considerations are the weight of the tent as if you are going to be carrying it this can be a concern.  How large a tent will fit in your vehicle and do you have room to store the tent when it is not in use?  The Internet is a great place to research your entire tent needs. I highly recommend reading the reviews on Amazon before you purchase. Click here to visit Amazon’s cabin tents.

It is also important to get one that is lightweight since you may be carrying this for a long time to the campsite. These cots are great for persons who are not looking for anything fancy, just wants something will get them off the ground so they can get good nights sleep.

When looking for a girls sleeping bag, there are many different features to consider before purchase. Some good questions to ask are: When will she be using it? Will it be indoors for sleepovers or outside for camping? How old is the girl and how long will she be using it? What is the budget and the comfort level needed?

As these questions are considered, girls sleeping bags can be narrowed down, as quite a large variety exists. For instance, if a girl sleeping bag is needed for outdoor camping, consider buying a more durable one like a Coleman. These come in colors a girl is sure to enjoy like pink. Slumberjack is another model that is good for outdoors and these are rated at 30 degrees F, so will be warm in cooler weather. The tapered mummy style is available in Slumberjack, and often people prefer this as it is warmer. These will range from around $25 and up.

If the purpose is simply a sleepover bag, than sleeping bags for girls come in plenty of options and price ranges. Of course, Disney makes many different Disney Princess bags, and for the younger girls, Melissa and Doug makes nice girl sleeping bags, like the Sunny Patch Mollie ladybug shaped bag. Many are theme printed and anything from characters to unicorns to ballet dancers and ponies can be found. Older girls may prefer funky flower styles or camouflage prints, or some that are themed for the preteen set are Camp Rock and Hannah Montana. Once they hit teenage years, girls may prefer girl sleeping bags that are a bit more toned down like the solid color ones. The price range for the indoor bag starts around $20 and ranges up to around $50 or $60.

Make sure the bag will grow with the child. A young girl does not need an adult style sleeping bag, but try to find one that will last a few years. Also, think about not only temperature, but comfort level. Even if the bag will just be used indoors, make sure it is soft enough so that if she is sleeping on the floor, the girl will be comfortable. Some come with attachable pillows, which can be a desirable feature.

As most girls love sleepovers, a sleeping bag will be an essential item to have. With all of the options, there is sure to be the right one for any girl.

Cheap Tents From Reliable Camping Suppliers

If you are looking for cheap tents, chances are you are new to the adventure of camping and do not want to make the commitment of an expensive investment in case you do not enjoy the experience. That is an understandable dilemma to be faced with and the only thing to remember is that part of your experience —whether you enjoy your time under the stars or not — is having a tent that can protect you from the elements and still vent enough air so that you are not cooking in your own body heat overnight!

Fortunately, there are a few cheap camping tent manufacturers who design a great product that won’t suck your wallet dry. Start by taking a look at the Coleman Max 6.6 X 4.6 Backpacking Tent. It sleeps two quite comfortably; pitches to three and a half feet in the center; has taped seams to prevent rain entry and has continuous sleeves for pole entry, which makes setting the tent simple. You can carry it with you without worrying about too much added weight, as it is less than six pounds. At seventy dollars, this cheap tent is a steal.

An alternative to Coleman tents, are tents from REI. REI makes a number of solid products. They have a wide variety of discount tents that suit the needs of all types of campers. If you are an experienced mountaineer wanting a one man pipe tent, REI has what you are looking for. On the other end of the spectrum, if you are a father of a family of six, you can find large family tents that are quite reasonably priced. For example, the REI Hobitat 6 Tent is a steal at only three hundred dollars. With a center pitch of almost seven feet, almost any camper can stand upright in its center. It is vented with coated polyester taffeta material meaning even when sleeping at capacity, this tent will never suffer from overheating. It can also easily vent warm night air so campers do not feel stuffy. It has an easy to follow instruction manual for set up and tear down, carries at only twenty pounds (which is pretty good for a 6 person tent) and comfortably works for three seasons — all but winter. Though, you could still use it in the winter by overcompensating on your sleeping bag. Every seam is double stitched and reinforced with water resistant taping so that even in a downpour you will not get wet. REI has many more tents to select from, from one man holes to ten man camping party tents and many of their name brand styles are affordable and well made.

For more fun and less work when camping, a popup tent is a great solution. This product is lightweight, so it does not require much room to transport. It is also very durable, typically made of a water resistant nylon fabric and an outer roof covering. The best feature is the ability to put up the device within seconds and take it down quickly.

While the outdoor shelter is great for many people, the popup tent trailer is larger and has many features that make cooking simpler, particularly when the weather outdoors does not permit grilling or cooking on an open fire. It also has a couple compartments for sleeping, which are usually the size of a double or queen size bed. Therefore, they can sleep four to six people comfortably.

Tent campers have many other benefits. While they must be pulled, you do not need the largest truck, as you would with other large recreational vehicles. They are easy to set up, when folding out the sleeping sections. Many come with a sink, propane cook top and small refrigerator. This is a more comfortable option than sleeping on the ground, and will get keep you up off the ground that may become muddy after a hard rain or may just become too damp at night.

Popup campers are priced much more reasonably than larger recreational vehicles. A new model can be purchased for well under $10,000. A good used model can be found for as little as $1,500 to $5,000, depending on condition and features. As with any vehicle that is used on roadways, the tires and axles must be in top condition, to prevent any unwanted accidents and extent the life of the item. Tires should be checked for wear and replaced when needed. The axles should be straight, so the trailer moves down the road in a straight fashion.

Pop up tent campers are convenient and can provide a family or an individual with plenty of enjoyable recreation. They are most useful for camping trips or family vacations. They can help make cooking a more pleasant experience in adverse weather conditions. They allow for bringing some refrigerated foods along, which may save money. Sometimes campgrounds are not near many stores, so having what you need on hand makes camping less complicated. They also provide plenty of storage for chairs, sleeping bags and other camping supplies that you need to bring along.

Sleeping Mats, Camping Mats, and Sleeping Pads for Camping

One of the most important parts of your camping equipment after a tents and sleeping bags is sleeping mats. A sleeping mat can be the difference between a great night’s rest and a night of misery. If the ground your tent is pitched on is rocky or uneven or if you are camping in the winter then a sleeping mat is a must. You can’t rely on sleeping bags to provide you with much cushioning or insulation as your weight makes it next to impossible for the bag to offer you adequate comfort or protection.

When shopping for a mat you will need to consider price and the level of comfort and protection the mat can provide. The mat you get should also be lightweight and compact since it will have to be carried to the campsite. Especially on a long camping trip, the mattress should be very lightweight. Now, no sleeping mattress will be low cost, light weight, comfortable and provide superior protection. Therefore, you would have to compromise on something or another. What you compromise on depends on your requirements and the nature of your trip.

There are mainly two types of camping mats: inflatable sleeping mats and foam sleeping mats. While the inflatable mats are more expensive than foam mats, they are also more comfortable. But, if it is a simple inflatable sleeping mat (which is the lightest type of mat to carry) without any foaming inside, then there are high chances of it getting damaged due to sharp surfaces. The solution to this shortcoming is self-inflating sleeping mat. These mats have foam cushioning with nylon covering and are meant to be inflated a bit through an air valve. But these types of mats are among the costliest variety in sleeping mattresses. Their price can go as high as $150.

In contrast, a foam sleeping mat would not cost you more than $40. Foam mattresses are of two types: open cell foam mats and closed cell foam mats. While if you are looking for better cushioning, you should go for open cell mats, if you require more protection from cold, you should go for closed cell mats. But there is a problem with open cell pads, if they happen to absorb water, they might become useless.

So, as is clear, there really isn’t any such thing as the best sleeping matt. However you can get a mat that best suits your needs. Some popular and preferred brands of sleeping mats are: Nemo, Big Agnes, Therm-a-Rest and Pacific. I highly recommend visiting somewhere like Amazon.com to read reviews from people that have actually used the type of sleeping mat that you are considering. Below, I’ve put together a widget with my recommendations. Check them out and see if they fit what you are looking for.

The Best Big Tents for Family Camping

The first thing you should know about buying big tents is when they are advertised as a 6 person tent, they mean just that. It does not mean six people plus a chair, your suitcase, a lamp, or any other gear you want within easy reach. For true comfort, especially on an extended camping trip, you should try to buy a tent that holds more people than you plan on having there.

When you are shopping for large tents, you will see they are rated for 1 to 4 seasons. By buying the ones rated at least 3 seasons, they should be able to withstand wind and rain. This protection; however, varies greatly by both the brand and the model of the tent, so read to make sure they are wind resistant and waterproof.

A good tent, if properly taken care of, will last for years, so if you have small children, buy a tent that is suitable for them at this age, but will also work as they get older. The Eureka Tetragon 1610 is one of my favorite large family tents and sleeps up to 9 people. It has the ability to form 3 rooms or be one open room. With 3 doors, 4 windows, and a 6’4” height at the center, it has plenty of room for the whole family on drizzly days. The Equinox 6, also by Eureka, is slightly smaller, but boasts of easy set up, wind stability, and maximum weather protection.

Chinook offers three promising models for big camping tents, with the 6 person easily set up clip sleeve pole system which is waterproof and has bathtub style floors with high sidewalls. The Chinook Twin Peaks Guide Fiberglass Expedition Tents offer both a tent and a screened dome, which can be used together or separately. The floor on the screened dome is removable for such uses as setting it over a picnic table. The Cyclone Base Camp model changes from one room to two with a detachable divider wall; it is stable in wind and has an extra large front vestibule for storage or living area.

This gives you an idea of the features you should look for in a large tent. Most of them are lightweight, pretty easy to set up, and store in a pretty small space. A lot of them will have an awning to put up for shade. So think about what is important to you and then combine the important features with the frills. There are certainly enough to choose from.
